At ERUK we are fortunate to have trustees that go beyond the call of duty. Alongside the governance of our charity, some have even joined our incredible #TeamERUK fundraisers for events this year…

Our brilliant Ride London team included our Chair of Trustees Professor Matthew Walker, fellow Trustee Mary Gavigan and her son Hamish, who all completed the 100mile cycling challenge.

Professor Walker said, “I am a neurologist, specialising in complex epilepsy. I see many people whose lives have been devastated by epilepsy, but I have also met many inspirational people who raise families, hold down jobs and battle on despite having, sometimes, many seizures a day. Beyond that, I meet parents who provide exceptional care for their child with epilepsy and families who have to cope with the sudden and unexpected death of a loved one with epilepsy. For all these people, I cycled the London-Surrey 100 for Epilepsy Research UK.”

In November, Mary and Hamish continued their fundraising efforts with a bike ride from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast in Costa Rica.

Mary reported that their South American adventure was, “Hot, humid, hard work – but fantastic!” You can read about why they support research into epilepsy and support their efforts here.

The ERUK staff would like to say a massive thank you to Matthew, Mary and Hamish for their fundraising efforts this year – we hope 2020 will see even more trustees joining us on the front-line to raise funds for research into epilepsy!
