This month, a trio of superstar supporters took on an epic challenge in honour of Toni Hodges, who sadly passed away at just age 37 last year. Based on the Olympic Triathlon distances of 1.5K swimming, 10K running and 40K cycling, Lisa, Gemma and Roy covered these distances each day for 37 days in their ‘Tri for Toni’ challenge.
The time, commitment and dedication needed to keep going every day for 37 days is a testament to just how loved Toni was by her friends and family. As is the total amount of money they were able to raise – an amazing £8,634, obliterating their original target. In fact, they did so well that they increased their target three times!
Starting on 6th August and finishing on 11th September, the anniversary weekend of Toni’s passing, the team were out in all weathers every day running, cycling and swimming for research. The team were posting regular updates on Instagram for us to follow their progress. You can watch the video clips and see the photos here.
On the last day of the challenge, Roy, Lisa and Gemma were joined by friends and family to mark the completion of the challenge and to raise a toast in Toni’s memory. Thank you to all for your continued support of Epilepsy Research UK – we are humbled and so grateful. You can read more about the Toni Hodges Memorial Fund here. Watch this space for the next challenge – we hear Roy has some ideas already…
