After a long hiatus, the #TeamERUK cheer squad were thrilled to be back on official duty yesterday, supporting our fantastic runners at one of the most iconic races in the country: Newcastle’s Great North Run. Home to several Epilepsy Research UK-funded research projects at Newcastle University and the Royal Victoria Infirmary, it was the perfect #TeamERUK comeback event!
24 superstar supporters took to the streets of Newcastle to run the famous 13.1 miles in support of vital research into epilepsy. The atmosphere was electric – everyone was delighted to be back at an in-person event and it was brilliant to be able to cheer our incredible supporters on just like old times! You can see some highlights from the Great North Run 2021 in the gallery below.
We also had the chance to catch up with the squad to find out more about why they took on this challenge for Epilepsy Research UK:
“I ran the Great North Run today in support of Epilepsy Research UK because my Aunty, such a close friend and family member, struggles with epilepsy on a daily basis and there’s got to be more that can be done.” Sarah
“We’re delighted to be here, it’s a fantastic charity and we’re honoured to run for Epilepsy Research UK.” Jonathon and Chris
A huge thank you and congratulations to all our runners who put in the time and energy to train and fundraise for this iconic event. Thank you also to everyone that sponsored #TeamERUK – together they have raised an incredible £14,000!
We’ll be back next year for the Great North Run 2022 on Sunday 11th September. If you’ve been inspired by our brilliant runners, visit our events page here for more details on how you can take part and support research to stop epilepsy interrupting lives.
