Understanding brain networks in temporal lobe epilepsy
Current scientific thinking is that epilepsy arises in networks of interconnected brain regions. However, we know little about brain networks in people with epilepsy. In this research project Professor Richardson and colleagues at King’s College London are using neuroimaging techniques to gain a detailed understanding of the brain network underlying one common type of epilepsy, temporal lobe epilepsy.
Professor Richardson is hopeful that the understanding gained from this project will lead to rapid improvements in Deep Brain Stimulation treatment for temporal lobe epilepsy and to new network modifying therapies in the future.
