An investigation into absence seizures
Absence seizures occur in many forms of childhood epilepsy but very little is known about such seizures and how they originate.
Dr Seokyung Chung and colleagues from Swansea University are examining 12 gene variations identified in a recent study as being associated with absence seizures in childhood epilepsies in order to confirm whether they actually cause absence seizures. Dr Chung’s research will provide a better understanding of the mechanisms of absence seizures and potentially uncover new treatment targets.
