Surgery is often the last resort for patients with refractory epilepsy but donated tissue can help us in our quest to find more, and more effective treatments for the condition.  Now scientists at Lund University in Sweden have developed a method to extend the life of brain tissue taken during surgery on patients with epilepsy. Samples can now be used for 48 hours after the operation, significantly increasing the amount of time that new treatments can be tested on the donated tissue, including any promising new drugs and potential gene therapy treatment. It also allows researchers to induce an epileptic-like seizure and monitor what happens to neurons within the tissue. To read more about the research just click on the link here:
