Epilepsy Research UK is delighted to announce that Maxine Smeaton has been appointed as our new Chief Executive Officer.Maxine has joined us from the Tuberous Sclerosis Association, where she was Interim CEO. She has a wealth of experience in the charity sector leading the renowned medical research charity Blond McIndoe and working in strategic development roles for both the Royal Mencap Society and Action for Children.“I am delighted to be joining Epilepsy Research UK as Chief Executive and working with the entire epilepsy community – all our supporters, researchers, the Board of Trustees and the team here, to develop a strategy to realise our ambitions for the charity” says Maxine.Maxine’s background is in working with people with disabilities and health related conditions. “I am passionate about the importance of improving the lives of people affected by the condition, and the people around them – including family, carers and professionals. Research not only improves the lives of people right now, but will also improve the lives of the many people who will develop epilepsy in the future. Research is essential if we are going to have a greater understanding of the condition, develop new treatments or even find a cure. At Epilepsy Research UK we provide the funding for the research that will help transform lives. This is something we can all do together.”
