Can it really be almost a week since National Epilepsy Week? So much happened – so we’ve rounded up some of the highlights…

We kicked things off on Monday by announcing a £1.3 million research investment with our 2020 Grant Awards – the largest ever single amount we have awarded to research in almost 30 years of operating. Of course, this has only been achieved thanks to the incredible efforts of our supporters.

Each day we shared a 60 second video from each of the newly funded researchers and stories from people who live with epilepsy, like Epilepsy Advocate, Annie Brooks, and our Supporter Care Manager, Leanne. The videos have already clocked up over 17,000 views! We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who got involved on social media – liking, sharing, tweeting – and to everyone who participated in our online events. The ERUK Quiz with Prof John Terry and Simon Privett was great fun and our first ever research webinar was a sell out!

We are delighted to say that despite everything going on in the world, our supporters remain engaged and made donations where they could as part of National Epilepsy Week. As with all charities, now more than ever we need your support to continue our vital work. From the whole ERUK team, thank you.

FOCUS SUMMER 2020
Our latest Focus newsletter dropped into inboxes and letterboxes just ahead of schedule, providing all the details of the life changing, life saving research awards announced and made possible by our supporters. We also discuss how ERUK is managing the effects of Covid-19, from virtual working to virtual fundraising and it’s impact on research. Read about this and much more in the full newsletter here.

6 FOR THE 600 CHALLENGE
We launched the #6forthe600 Challenge to help raise the funds that will be needed to continue vital research into epilepsy. From running 6 miles every day for 6 days, walking 600,000 steps, or completing 6 different challenges in 6 days, we loved seeing the imaginative ways our supporters got involved. There’s still a chance to take part – we’re asking you to get creative and support the 600 people diagnosed with epilepsy in the UK each week. Find your #6forthe600 challenge here.

#MORETHANSEIZURES WEBINAR
We’ve been working on making research easier to understand and decided to experiment with a webinar. Our newly appointed Director of Research & Innovation, Dr James Pickett, took on the challenge and brought together ERUK funded researchers and experts by experience to share their work and thoughts on National Epilepsy Week’s #MoreThanSeizures theme.

If you missed it – don’t worry, you can watch the full webinar below. The session was aimed for all, so whether you’re living with epilepsy, researching epilepsy or just interested and would like to learn a bit more we hope you’ll enjoy it!

National Epilepsy Week was a great success, but that was just one week. Our work continues because people with epilepsy live with the condition every single day. Times are hard for everyone at the moment, but seizures haven’t stopped, so our promise to you is neither will we.
