We are delighted to share the news that Epilepsy Research UK President, Professor Helen Cross, has been elected as President of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), the preeminent association of healthcare professionals and scientists working in epilepsy across the globe.

Professor Cross is The Prince of Wales’s Chair of Childhood Epilepsy, Head of Developmental Neurosciences Programme and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Neurology at UCL Institute of Child Health, Great Ormond Street Hospital. Helen’s research has primarily focused on optimising outcomes in the early onset epilepsies and has been the leader in the field on initiatives including the ketogenic diet and epilepsy surgery in children.

Professor Cross has long been involved with the ILAE, most recently as Treasurer. Helen also plays a critical role with charities, including as ERUK’s President and as a Trustee for Young Epilepsy and Matthew’s Friends.

Helen’s commitment to the epilepsy community is nothing short of inspirational.  She is revered by her fellow clinicians, researchers and patients, and of course, for charities like us, she goes the extra mile to support our work. Helen will bring so many qualities to the leadership of the ILAE globally. We are absolutely thrilled for her.
