Toni Hodges was just 37 when she passed away on 13th September 2020, after suffering a seizure and never regaining consciousness. She had lived with epilepsy for 25 years, but never let it stop her from achieving her dreams.

Toni realised her ambition of becoming a flight attendant for Virgin Atlantic and had a wonderful career flying with them for 14 years. After leaving Virgin, she worked and lived in the Caribbean for a year before returning home and joining a private holiday company as an executive cabin crew. Travel was in her blood!

She was a bright, kind, generous, caring and loving girl, with a stunning smile which lit up every room she entered. Her life was so full and she wasn’t done just yet! She will be sadly missed by everyone that knew her.”

One year on from her passing we’re overwhelmed by the support ERUK has received from Toni’s family and friends, who have been fundraising tirelessly for research into epilepsy in her memory.

In June this year, Toni’s stepfather Roy and her uncle Chris took part in a sponsored skydive, raising over £3000 for Epilepsy Research UK. The tandem skydive was run in conjunction with The Army Parachute Association at Netheravon, Wiltshire. Roy and Chris came away from the jump with wonderful memories, photos and the most incredible video.

Roy didn’t stop there! He recently took part in an even bigger challenge with two of Toni’s close school friends, Gemma and Lisa. They completed the #TriForToni event based on the Olympic Triathlon distances of 1.5K swimming (Lisa), 10K running (Gemma) and 40K cycling (Roy). The unstoppable team completed these distances every day for 37 days, to mark the age Toni was when she passed. The challenge began on the 6th August and finished on the 11th September: the anniversary of Toni’s passing. The commitment shown by Roy, Lisa and Gemma throughout the challenge was astonishing and thanks to their incredible efforts over £8,000 has been raised for vital epilepsy research.

We’ve done it! Thank you so much to our supporters, all 198 of you!

On the same weekend, the #TriforToni event came to a close, Toni’s close friend Natalie took on the Brighton Marathon and raised over £2,000 – another truly fantastic achievement!

Too many lives are taken by epilepsy and I would love to make a contribution to Epilepsy Research UK to help find answers to prevent future loss and heartbreak.

Thank you so much to Roy, Chris, Natalie, Gemma & Lisa for their remarkable fundraising in memory of Toni  – and thank you to all those who have supported their efforts.

An incredible total of £20,946 has been raised to date in Toni’s memory.
