Job title: Communications Assistant

Responsible to: Head of Communications

Hours: Full-time

Salary: Circa £25k

Location: Combination remote/office

Role overview: Supporting the communications team in delivering on all its strategic aims

Job purpose

The candidate will play a key role in supporting the engagement and growth of our audiences, raising the profile of our work and maintaining brand integrity and consistency. This role will be supervised by the Head of Communications and will largely involve working in digital and social media.

Key responsibilities overview

  • Social media monitoring and scheduling using Hootsuite
  • Manage online presence through maintenance of web content and social media channels
  • Drafting and editing internal copy
  • Project tracking, analysis and reporting
  • Collate information on outcomes to use in future projects
  • SEO maintenance on the website
  • Design and produce graphics such as banners and infographics for social media, website and publications
  • Assisting the Marketing Manager with email marketing, including uploading data for mailing lists and welcome emails
  • Managing the charity’s online store
  • Contributing new ideas
  • Maintaining brand consistency throughout all work
  • Ad hoc administrative support to the communications team

Person specification


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to multitask
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative and innovative
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Good knowledge of social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field
  • Familiarity with design software including Photoshop and InDesign
  • An understanding of social media strategies and media relations
  • Experience working with WordPress, Hootsuite, Mailchimp and all popular social media channels
  • Experience with content management systems
