Tireless ERUK supporter Chris Dunn-Veale is taking on his greatest challenge yet this year, attempting to row 2020 Kilometres in 2020 in aid of Epilepsy Research UK.

Chris took on a staggering 9 ultra-marathons last year, clocking up a total of 856km. With a personal fundraising target of £10,000 to reach, this year he has raised the bar even higher – we didn’t think it was possible!

For reference, rowing 2020K is the rough equivalent of rowing the Thames 6 times or well over the length of the UK and Ireland combined.

As well as 2020K being very fitting for the year, Chris decided on the rowing target as it is roughly the distance from his home to each of the football clubs that are taking part in his sponsored “Charity Goal Challenge” this year.

The challenge involves numerous football clubs across the country, with players being sponsored for goals they score during the season. At time of writing, the overall goals scored is 347, amounting to £1214.50.

Chris is dedicated to raising funds for ERUK in memory of his good friend Jonny, who sadly passed away due to epilepsy six years ago.

After Jonny’s death I just thought – I need to do something. Whether it’s funding research, helping those who are suffering with the condition, or supporting the carers of people with epilepsy. It can happen to anyone: females, males, children, or the elderly. So hopefully, if I can push things forward just a little bit, that would be good.

As of March 2020, Chris has currently already rowed 109km of the total distance.

ERUK is incredibly grateful to Chris for his continued commitment and support – his relentless efforts are inspiring and he is a fantastic ambassador for our charity.
